As the 2025 Antigua mission approaches, this update provides important guidance for volunteers, including currency requirements, travel preparation, and key reminders for working in Guatemala. Cash handling, volunteer payments, ethical standards, and recommended items to bring are all outlined to help ensure a smooth and well-prepared departure.

From April 24 to May 3, 2024, Medicos en Accion returned to Kanifing General Hospital to provide highly specialized thyroid surgery for patients with large, complex goitres. This type of care is rarely available in the region. Over nine surgical days, the team completed 21 procedures, supported by the National Thyroid Clinic established in 2015 and the dedicated leadership of local physicians.

With our largest team to date, five operating rooms, and an expanded hearing clinic, our Guatemala team completed another highly successful mission serving Indigenous Mayan communities with limited access to health care. Over two weeks, the team performed 184 gynecology, general, and ENT surgical procedures and provided hearing care to 139 clients—addressing urgent needs that directly support health, mobility, and quality of life.
