Medicos en Accion is gearing up for a busy season with the Gambia team returning in November and the Antigua mission planned for January. These missions rely on the dedication of volunteers and the generosity of supporters. Donations, whether in kind or cash, help ensure care continues for patients who need it most.

During an intensive two-week mission, 64 volunteers worked together to deliver more than 218 surgical procedures and provide hearing care to over 140 patients. Across five operating rooms and a busy hearing clinic, the team adapted quickly to new roles, long days, and a fast-paced environment focused on patient care.

As the 2025 Antigua mission approaches, this update provides important guidance for volunteers, including currency requirements, travel preparation, and key reminders for working in Guatemala. Cash handling, volunteer payments, ethical standards, and recommended items to bring are all outlined to help ensure a smooth and well-prepared departure.

With our largest team to date, five operating rooms, and an expanded hearing clinic, our Guatemala team completed another highly successful mission serving Indigenous Mayan communities with limited access to health care. Over two weeks, the team performed 184 gynecology, general, and ENT surgical procedures and provided hearing care to 139 clients—addressing urgent needs that directly support health, mobility, and quality of life.

Welcome to the 2024 Antigua Mission and thank you to our volunteers and donors whose generosity makes this work possible. This mission marks Medicos en Accion’s 23rd anniversary and our 21st mission to Antigua, continuing a long-standing partnership with Hospital Hermano Pedro.

After a three-year pause, our team returned to Antigua for a successful January/February mission made possible by dedicated volunteers and generous donors.
